The unusual name of Ballwin is actually unique within the entire country. Named for founder John Ball, the town dates from 1837 and was incorporated in its modern form in 1950. Home to over thirty two thousand residents today spread over ten square miles, Ballwin has enjoyed a long and storied relationship with the National Pastime of baseball. Since the first ball field was laid out in the 1920s, the town has always fielded winning teams. During the 1950s alone, Ballwin teams won the St. Louis County League Championship five times. Several local players have even made it to the big leagues, playing with teams such as the St. Louis Cardinals, the old St. Louis Browns, and others.Home of the finest 9-hole golf course in the greater St. Louis area, Ballwin maintains a system of three public parks featuring tennis courts, game fields, lakes, and recreational amenities for the entire family.
